But did you know that as we age, we can also lose bone density in certain flat bones in the face?
It is believed that you can improve the integrity of these bones with the help of building bone density exercises for your face.
By working the muscles with facial firming exercises, an added benefit is
to restore and prevent future loss of bone density in several areas throughout the face.
After the years go by, the muscles and connective tissues in the face weaken and lose elasticity.
As you look in the mirror and notice fine lines, deep wrinkles and sagging skin, another reason for looking older is that the flat bones in the face in the eye socket area experience a degree of atrophy, or shrinkage, allowing additional sagging skin and wrinkling in this area. Do you have that “hollow-eye” look? It may be due to some bone atrophy around the eye sockets.
The jawline is one of the first things to lose its shape. While a mushy jawline is due to jowling and sagging skin, bone atrophy in this area may also be responsible.
By performing facial exercises, you can rebuild fibers, connective tissues and muscles in the face. By performing these exercises, particularly by applying gentle pressure and moving your fingers over various areas of the face and jawline, you may also reinvigorate the flat bones in these areas, in addition to the cheek and mouth areas, as well.
Starting around age 40, the bones throughout our body lose density, including the bones in the face. As for the flat bones in the face, this is most apparent in the jaw and eye socket areas. The bones, because they are flat, do not respond to normal exercises that you may use to strengthen other bones in the body, such as the legs, ankles or hips.
The very basic facial exercises have you contracting various muscle groups in the face, then sliding your fingers along the skin with a slight degree of pressure.
In so doing, you are restoring and rebuilding the connective tissues, in addition to strengthening the underlying bone mass, which may respond to the slight “stress”being applied to the bone.
Check out the research done by Dr. Frederick Rossiter, M.D., who uncovered a technique for massaging facial muscles in his book, "Face
Culture." By applying the correct pressure to the muscles during facial exercises, you can eliminate wrinkles in the skin and after time, challenge and improve bone mass in the facial area. The key is the way you
massage the contracted muscles and subsequent supporting bone mass.
The benefits of facial exercise are numerous, with the obvious goal of looking years younger than you do right now.
You can rebuild muscle tone, which encourages the development of collagen and elastic fibers in the face, and possibly improve bone density of various flat bones in the face. By responding to stress – or exercise – it is possible to maintain or improve the density of facial bones.
Facial firming exercises help to firm up sagging skin, eliminate wrinkles and breathe new life into stretched, sagging muscles under the surface
of the skin. Facial toning exercises also improve circulation and restore a generous supply of oxygen to cells, making them healthy and ultimately, rewarding you with a more youthful complexion and skin.
Remember to take a daily supplement of cod liver oil, which is helpful both for your bones (vitamin D) and supplying vitamin A to your tissues. Vitamin D is essential for strong, healthy bones, in your facial area and throughout your entire body.
